Duties and responsibilities:
Optometrist assistants help optometrists by conducting diagnostic tests, recording and measuring vision, testing eye function, instructing patients in  inserting and caring for contact lenses, preparing examination rooms,   cleaning and arranging equipment, answering phones.

Salary:
Average pay for an Optometrist is $96K annually. More often than not, an Optometric Technician role is the next step for Optometric Assistants moving up in the field. Pay for Optometric Technicians is usually $25K.

Education:
Generally, on the job training is available for those seeking to begin a career as an optometrist assistant, however, 1 or 2 years program in medical assisting at a vocational school or community college.
